No independent voice chat?

I know people have made comments about this concern a thousand times but even though sony knows this issue, why can’t I still talk to someone while I am playing a certain game and they are playing some other game? typing is a **bleep** when I am in the middle of a game and it is like I have no use of my psn friends most of the time when I am playing a game. Has there been any official announcments about this for the future?
